How to use Emma to import and validate your email groups

Our Emma integration allows you to easily import your email groups, validate them and export the email validation results back to Emma.

What you need to get started:

  • A DataValidation account
  • An Emma account with email lists

Linking an Emma account to DataValidation

You will be redirected to the Emma login page and asked to input your login credentials. The window will close and DataValidation will connect to your Emma account.

A few seconds later, you will see that your Emma account has appeared in the import sources list. After you click on it, you will see all your Emma email groups. Select the ones you want to import and click on Import selected lists. Once imported, the group will be analyzed and validated.

Validating your email lists

Once the first stage of the validation process is completed, you will receive the Free List Quality Report with a score from 0 to 100, which represents the overall health of your email group. This score is based on the grades that we assigned to each email address in your list. You can see the percentages of email addresses that fall into each grade category by clicking on View Details.

In order to sync the validation results back to your Emma account, you need to purchase the validated email group. Click on Add to cart, which will add the list to your cart. You can add all the groups you want to validate to the shopping cart before checkout.

Complete the checkout and that’s it! Now the final stage of the validation process will be performed, and when it’s done, the validation results will be synced back to your Emma account. You can also download the results in a .csv file from your DataValidation dashboard.

How to use the validated groups in Emma

In your Emma account, go to the group that you validated and you will notice that we’ve added four new fields to it. These fields contain information pertaining to the validity of your email addresses. You will be able to use this information to create a segment that contains only the email addresses we confirmed to be valid and safe to send to.
Validate groups

Below you will find a brief description of each of these fields:

  • Dv grade contains the grade that was assigned to each email address.
  • Dv safe to send tells you if an email address is safe to send to or not. Basically this column tells you if the email address was graded A+/A or not, as these are the addresses that were confirmed as valid by our system
  • Dv is role based - tells you if the email address is a role-based email address or not
  • Dv is disposable - tells you if the email address is disposable (temporary) or not

In this example, we will create a segment that it will only contain the A+ and A graded email addresses in your group. To create a segment, select Segments, and then click on Create a new segment.

Here you will see all email addresses graded with A and A+. These are the email addresses that were confirmed as valid by our system. You can also make sure only non-disposable email addresses are included in your list, by adding another condition to your segment, via the Add Another button. The fun part is that you can segment your groups any way you want.
