This article will walk you through the basics of linking your PieSync account and DataValidation (email list verification service) account and setting up a 2-way synchronization. We will be creating a connection between DataValidation and Salesforce as an example in this guide.
For this tutorial you will need:
PieSync’s Intelligent two-way syncing matches and synchronizes customer data across your connected apps. PieSync integrates DataValidation with over 100 apps for an automatic 2-way contacts sync which makes it easier to verify your email database. Every time you add or update a contact in the app, it is automatically synced with DataValidation, and vice versa — automating the import/export process for you.
To get started you will need to log into your Piesync account and click on the Connections tab in the menu on the left. You will then need to click the button to add a new connection.
Then select the application that you would like to connect with DataValidation from the list. In this example we will be using Salesforce, a popular CRM (you can search for Salesforce using the search field at the top of the page).
You will then select DataValidation as the application you are connecting Salesforce to from the same list as before. This will take you to the connection authorization screen.
You will then be asked to select a DataValidation account or to add a new account. When you click to add your DataValidation account you will be prompted to provide your API key and to name the dynamic list that PieSync will be creating for this sync.
If you do not already have your API key for your DataValidation account, you can generate one. To do this, log into your DataValidation account and simply click on the Profile Settings tab (which can be found on the left side of your Datavalidation account) and then click the generate button under API key.
Once you have completed that, you will either select an existing Salesforce account from the drop down menu or click the Add account button to add a new one. You will be met with a pop-up that asks you to confirm that you have API Enabled in your Salesforce permissions, as well as instructions and a link on how to enable it.
When you click Next you will be prompted to log into your Salesforce account, in order to connect it to your PieSync account. (* Note - this process may differ slightly with other connectors as some applications require API keys to connect them to PieSync in the same way DataValidation does).
Once both DataValidation and Salesforce are connected, click on the button that says Configure the connection between DataValidation and SalesForce, and you will be able to configure the way you want the synchronization from these two accounts to function.
At the bottom of this screen you will see the option for field mapping. This is where you will match the results of your email verification to the corresponding fields you have setup in your Salesforce account (or any other connected application).
Login to your Salesforce account, select the Contacts tab, and then click setup from the dropdown menu on the right.
From the setup page, click on the Object Manager tab and select Contact from the list.
Then, from the contact page, click on the Fields and Relationships tab on the left and then click the New button on the right to create a new field.
Select Text from the list of field types and then click Next.
You are then prompted to enter the details of the new custom field. In this example we are creating a field for the deliverability grade. You will make a label for the grade, (here we have named it DataValidation Grade) and select the maximum length of the text field (here we have entered 50). The field name will auto populate according to the field label. You can then choose to provide a description for the new field if you would like.
Click Next until you get to step 4 of 4, which will allow you to save the new field.
Aside from the grades, we can also tell you if an email address is role-based, if it’s disposable, or if it’s safe to send to. You will need to set up field mapping for each of these pieces of information, by repeating the steps above. You can learn more about these grades and designations here.
This brings us back to the Field Mapping section on the connection configuration screen. You will need to click on the Add field mapping button.
Then select the new fields that you created in your Salesforce account (we named it DataValidation Grade in our previous steps).
Then you will select the corresponding field from your DataValidation account (in this example it will be the deliverability grade of the email).
Then click the Start Syncing Now button at the bottom of the page.
In the example above, we have it set up so that if a contact is in Salesforce or added to Salesforce, it will be added to a dynamic list in DataValidation.
You will then be met with a screen that allows you to view the active synchronization of the two applications.
Lists synchronized by PieSync are kept in sync automatically and in real-time. There is no need for manual imports. Each time you add a contact in SalesForce, it will be imported into the dynamic list in DataValidation for which you will be given an updated free report.

Anytime that you would like to download or export the results back to your Salesforce account, you will simply need to login to your DataValidation account and click on the purchase button on the dynamic list and complete the checkout.
Once you have made your purchase, any information that you have set up field mapping for (grades, disposable, role based, etc) are automatically synchronized back to your connected application (SalesForce in this example). Also, you will be able to download both the Safe list, which includes only A and A+ emails, and the Everything list, which includes all the emails and their corresponding grades from within your DataValidation account directly.
