Upload an Everything List to MailChimp

If you simply uploaded a MailChimp list to our online email verification system, rather than linking an account, you’ll need to download your lists from DataValidation and upload directly to MailChimp. In the case that a linked MailChimp account is not automatically syncing back to your account, you can also upload a list to your account manually.

Download an Everything List to see all email addresses in your original list with their appended Email Assurance Grades and Deliverability Codes. Click on the green download button on your list’s Report Card to download the Everything list.

What do the codes in my Email Assurance Report mean?

Login to your MailChimp account and access Lists on the Dashboard. You can upload the Everything List by creating a new List, or you can add it to an existing List.

Upload an Everything List and Create a New List

To use the Everything list to create a new List in MailChimp, access the Lists tab and click on Create List. Input details to create a new list and save. Please note: When you upload a new List, MailChimp will scan and remove any duplicates from the import, although MailChimp does not recognize duplicate email addresses across lists.

Import subscribers from from a CSV file and browse for the downloaded Everything list. After selecting the Everything list for upload you’ll need to match the columns in your uploaded list with any current merge fields you have saved. If you previously linked a MailChimp account to DataValidation and had results automatically synced back, then custom fields should be saved to your list.

If these fields have not been saved to your List yet, you can use the drop down menu to create a new column by selecting New Column Name. Use the column names provided: grade, click, open, hard, optout, complain, trap, and deceased. This subscriber-level deliverability data is what determines an address’ Email Assurance Grade.

DataValidation's online email verification system uses these fields to store verification grades and codes for individual subscribers. If these fields are already saved, they will be available for selection when using the drop down menu to select the Column Name.

All of the addresses in the Everything list are considered Safe to. Once your new list has been created, you’re ready to deploy mail!

Upload an Everything List to an Existing List

To add a Everything List to an existing List in MailChimp, use the drop down menu for the existing list and click on Import.

Import from from a CSV file and browse for the downloaded Safe list. MailChimp will scan and remove any duplicates from the import, although MailChimp does not recognize duplicate email addresses across lists.

After selecting the Everything List for upload you’ll need to match the columns in your uploaded list with any current columns you have saved. If you previously linked a MailChimp account to DataValidation and had results automatically synced back, then custom fields should be saved to your list.

What do the codes in my Email Assurance Report mean?

If you’re adding a Everything List to an existing MailChimp List, you’ll need to make you have segments set up. Segments will ensure that you only deploy mail to deliverable subscribers in your list, and can be created based on the fields you have saved.

If you already have segments setup for Safe, Accept-All and Indeterminate addresses, the email addresses in your newly added Safe list will automatically populate in the Safe category.

Create Segments for an Everything List

Make sure to set up segments, whether you have a linked MailChimp account or you simply upload verified results. Segments are very important, especially when manually uploading an Everything List.

The Everything List contains all original email addresses, even those that are determined to be undeliverable. Segments should be created for Safe, Accepts-All, Unknown, and Undeliverable email addresses.

Creating a segment for Safe addresses (those with A+ and A grades) to ensure you’re only deploying mail to deliverable addresses.

Create the segment by accessing the existing List, using the drop down menu under Manage Subscribers, and clicking on Segments. Create a Safe segment by setting subscribers to match any of the following criteria:

Grade [is] A+

Grade [is] A

This criteria will ensure that only addresses with Email Assurance Grades of A+ and A are in the Safe segment. Preview and save the segment.

Check Auto-Update to have any new subscribers added to this List automatically be added to the Safe segment.

Create segments the same way for Accepts-All addresses (those with B grades) to ensure that addresses with accepts-all domains do not get mailed at the same time as Safe addresses. more about accepts all…..

Create the Accepts-All segment by setting subscribers to match any of the following criteria:

Grade [is] B

Create a segments the same way for Indeterminate addresses (those with D grades) to ensure that addresses with indeterminate domains do not get mailed to. We do not recommend sending to email addresses that are indeterminate.

Create the Indeterminate segment by setting subscribers to match any of the following criteria:

Grade [is] D

Create a segment the same way for Undeliverable addresses (those with F grades) to ensure that these addresses do not get mailed to. We do not recommend sending to email addresses that are Undeliverable. Users with Linked Accounts can choose to have F results auto-unsubscribed.

Create the Undeliverable segment by setting subscribers to match any of the following criteria:

Grade [is] F

Once segments have been created, you all ready to send! Please remember, only email addresses in the Safe segment are considered Safe. We do not recommend deploying mail to addresses with Email Assurance Grades of B, D or F.

Send to Safe Addresses

To send a campaign to your Safe list, access the Campaign tab in the MailChimp dashboard and click Create Campaign. Choose the type of campaign you’d like to send and then select the List you’d like to mail to.

Select Send to a Saved Segment, and choose Safe from the drop down menu.
